Feather headbands seem to be really popular in stores right now. I noticed a few here and there around the holidays, but now they’re everywhere, although I have yet to see someone on the street wearing one. I’m sure it’s only a matter of time.

And may I say, what a difference a feather makes!  It instantly transforms the preppy classic into an avant garde fashion statement.

They’re also a great accessory for those trying to tighten up their purse strings.  It’s a great way to spice up a repeat ensemble.

If you’re thinking about trying out this trend, here’s some of the best I found during my search for the perfect feather.

Attaching feather hair extensions is very easy. Using a few strands of hair, you thread it through a bead that is placed on top of the feather. Then a special clamp is used to lock the bead in place and you’re all done. Feather extensions only take about 10 minutes to apply and can last up to 6 months. They are also safe for washing, curling, and flat ironing. Here is a great video that provides a step-by-step walk-through.

The feathers are clamped at the top with a micro ring to keep intact while being shipped. To remove, open the clamp with a pair of pliers or cut right below the clamp before installing them in hair. Now you can use feathers individually as you please.

1. Pull hair back into a clip leaving the area you'd like the feather completely free of stray hairs.

2. Place your micro ring onto the bottom of the wire loop. Grab a small amount of hair to thread through the center of the wire loop.

3. Pull the hair through the wire loop, holding the tip of the wire loop as close to the scalp as possible.

4. Pull the micro ring up the wire loop and through the piece of hair.

5. Once the hair is through the micro ring, place the feather in the micro ring with the hair and clamp it shut with a pair of pliers. Give the ring a strong clamp so the feathers stay in place. Make sure you clamp the ring flat onto the scalp so it doesn't irritate the head and the feathers lay flat.

 

Takes less than 1 minute! To take the feather out, gently clamp the micro ring in the opposite direction to open it up. The feathers will come right out.
